I mean, do I really need two Jags with transmissions that are basically considered to be a consumable?

But, man, I want to have a winter beater AWD Jagon.

Do it.

When are you ever going to get an opportunity to get a Jaguar Wagon again?

Truth. There are never more than 4 within 500 miles of me at any given time.

Counterpoint: That’s $6,000 that could be put towards $19k for this this 57k mile-ish XK that’s so perfect that I could cry.

Do it, Really Do it, there is no fail with this plan. Alas my X-type is a stick so I don’t know about transmission experiration dates.

I really wish I could find the wagon with a stick, but my guess is that even if they were even sold in the US, they’d have the combined unicorness of both the Jagon and the stick X-Type.

They weren't sold here IIRC all wagons were 3.0 and the stick only came with the 2.5s

Sigh. What is with Jag doing that? The 3.0 S-Type could come with a stick.

Make sure AC works and front struts are good. Both are involved jobs. Changing the transfer case oil is also hideous and important due to proximity to the exhaust and high temps. They are good little cars though. I think the bad transmissions were mainly early cars. Mine had its replaced under recall (had a Jatco sticker). Not the smoothest transmission but no problems in three years.

I am having very good experiences with it’s sister, the S-Type. Bought a 2000 S-Type executive over three years ago at a beater price in good condition. Other than some light maintenance, it has been bulletproof. Gearbox is great, I believe it could be the same in this X-Type, even though these cars don’t share much (X-Type has way more Mondeo bits than S-Type). As Mondeos are good vehicles to begin with, X-Type is a pretty safe bet IMO.

Step away from that wagon, if you want something that’s going to fall apart consider this one.

Jags typically have certain problems, while Audis have all the problems
